What features should I expect to get in a professional WordPress website design package?

With a professional WordPress website design, you should expect to receive these services and skills:

  • A website designer with at least 10+ years of site design experience using the platform you designer (eg – WordPress software).
  • A designer who understand the importance of responsive design, especially with mobile-first design and optimization.
  • A developer who can code your site using best practices for SEO, GEO, and Accessibility.
  • A creative who can talk to you about the pain points of your current site and can then help solve those issues through design and UX practices.
  • A designer who is responsive to your questions and emails and who won’t ghost you half-way through the project.
  • A designer who has happy clients who have willing shared feedback about their experience with said designer.

How should I choose a professional WordPress website designer?

When choosing a professional WordPress website designer, you should keep these things in mind:

  • Their experience with building websites and using WordPress: As a website designer with 27 years of experience and 15 of those years using WordPress exclusively, I can answer most any question about website building, compatibility of websites on various browsers and mobile devices, what themes to use for best results, how to optimize your site backend for SEO, how to setup your domain name and hosting accounts, and more.
  • Their overall skillset: Yes, they can help you build a website, but can they help you with the technical aspects of the site as well? I can help you register your domain name, repoint your DNS, setup your meta data for SEO and GEO, write your site so that it is accessible for users with disabilities, and update your backend WordPress software as needed.
  • What their past clients say about working with them: A designer can have a great portfolio, but if the experience of working with them was difficult or clunky, they may not be your best choice. Be sure to read past client reviews and testimonials on multiple platforms to see what others say about the experience of working with that designer. You can read reviews from my past clients here »

What are the best steps for choosing a WordPress website design agency?

1. Define Your Goals and Requirements
Start by clarifying what you want your website to achieve and what features you need. A clear scope makes it easier to find a designer that aligns with your vision.

2. Review Their Portfolio
Look through their past WordPress projects to get a feel for their design style and technical skills. Pay attention to sites that resemble your industry or desired functionality.

3. Check Client Testimonials & Case Studies
Client feedback and case studies help you understand how the designer performs in real-world projects. Look for proof of reliability, results, and positive client experiences.

4. Evaluate Their WordPress Expertise
Ask about their development approach, preferred tools, and adherence to best practices. A strong WordPress designer should build secure, scalable, and SEO-friendly websites.

5. Ask About Their Process
A reputable designer will outline a clear workflow from discovery to launch. This helps set expectations and ensures the project stays organized and on track.

6. Understand Their Communication Style
Notice how well and how quickly they communicate during the early stages. Good communication is essential for keeping the project running smoothly.

7. Compare Pricing and Value — Not Just Cost
Evaluate what’s included in the pricing and whether it supports your long-term goals. The right designer provides value, not just a low price tag.

8. Ask About Support and Maintenance
Ensure the designer offers ongoing support to keep your site updated, secure, and functioning well. Reliable maintenance protects your investment long-term.

Typically, we will talk first so that I can get a good feel for page count, functionality to be included in the site, where you are in the process of creating your content, etc. From there, I will create a custom built estimate for building out your website.
To get started, simply reach out via my contact form and I’ll discuss your goals to create a plan that suits your vision. Please note that I typically require a deposit of 50% upfront, with the remaining balance due upon project completion.
